Terms of Use

Effective from 30 September 2026

These terms apply to Takums — the website takums.com and its language versions, the web map at maps.takums.com and the Takums apps for iPhone and Android. By creating an account or using Takums you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Takums.

Takums is a map of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia with trails, routes and search, combined with a walking game: you claim zones on the map by walking loops, track your steps, and take part in groups, leagues and challenges. Takums is currently free to use. We keep developing it, so features may be added, changed or removed. If we ever introduce paid features, we will tell you the price in advance and you will never be charged without agreeing to it.

3. Your account

• You must be at least 16 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian.
• Give accurate details and keep your password to yourself. One account per person.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you suspect someone else has access, change your password and let us know.
• You can delete your account at any time in the app or the web map.

4. Stay safe outdoors

Takums helps you explore — but the real world always comes first.

• Map data comes largely from open sources and may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Trails may be closed, flooded or dangerous. Use your own judgement and follow signs on site.
• Obey traffic rules and local laws. Respect private property, nature reserves, restricted areas and seasonal closures. No zone or challenge ever requires you to trespass or put yourself at risk.
• Do not use the app in a way that distracts you while driving, cycling in traffic or in other situations requiring your full attention.
• Physical activity carries risk. If you have health concerns, talk to a doctor before starting new exercise. Step counts and distances are estimates and are not medical information.

5. Play fair

Zones, leaderboards and challenges only work if everyone plays honestly. You agree not to:

• fake your location or activity (GPS spoofing, emulators, recording in a vehicle for walking challenges, uploading someone else's tracks);
• use several accounts, bots or scripts to gain an advantage, or collect data from Takums automatically;
• harass, threaten or impersonate others, or post unlawful, hateful, sexual or misleading content;
• try to access other people's accounts, our servers or data you are not authorised to see.

If we detect a breach, we may remove content, reset zones or results, or suspend or close the account. Where appropriate we will first tell you why and let you respond.

6. Your content

Your tracks, photos, posts and comments remain yours. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process and display them only as needed to run Takums and in line with the visibility settings you choose. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies other users have already legitimately received (for example a comment in a group). You are responsible for having the right to share what you upload.

7. Our rights

The Takums name, logo, design, apps and software belong to WD Team, SIA or our licensors. You may use them only as part of using Takums. Map data and other third-party materials are used under their own licences — see section 13.

8. Other services

Takums can work with services from other companies — for example Apple Health, Health Connect, Sign in with Apple or Google, Strava or Garmin. Their own terms apply to them, and we are not responsible for their availability or content.

9. Availability

We do our best to keep Takums running and your data safe, but we cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free service. We may carry out maintenance, change features or, with reasonable notice, discontinue Takums. If we discontinue it, you will be able to export your tracks before it closes.

10. Liability

Takums is provided free of charge and "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses or for damage resulting from reliance on map data, routes or trail information. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for wilful misconduct or gross negligence — or your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. Ending the relationship

You can stop using Takums and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches these terms. Sections that by their nature should continue (for example 10 and 15) survive termination.

13. Map data and licences

Takums is built on the work of open communities and data providers. We are grateful to them.

14. App licence (EULA)

This section is the end user licence agreement for the Takums apps (the App), including when downloaded from the Apple App Store.

14.1. Parties

This agreement is between you and WD Team, SIA — not Apple Inc. WD Team, SIA alone is responsible for the App and its content. These terms do not provide for usage rules that are less restrictive than, or in conflict with, the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

14.2. Licence

You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for personal purposes on any Apple-branded device you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, including Family Sharing. You may not distribute, rent, sell, decompile or reverse-engineer the App except as permitted by law.

14.3. Maintenance and support

WD Team, SIA alone is responsible for maintenance and support of the App. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the App. Support: [email protected].

14.4. Warranty

WD Team, SIA is responsible for the App's conformity. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform are the responsibility of WD Team, SIA. This does not limit your statutory consumer rights.

14.5. Product claims

WD Team, SIA — not Apple — is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection or privacy law.

14.6. Intellectual property

If a third party claims that the App or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, WD Team, SIA — not Apple — is solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging the claim.

14.7. Legal compliance

You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

14.9. Third-party terms

When using the App you must also comply with applicable third-party terms, such as your mobile data plan.

14.10. Third-party beneficiary

Apple Inc. and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement, and once you accept it Apple has the right (and is deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce it against you as a third-party beneficiary.

14.11. Google Play and other stores

If you download the App from Google Play or another store, that store's terms also apply, and the references to Apple in 14.1, 14.2 and 14.10 do not apply.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features. The current version is always on this page with its effective date. For significant changes we will notify you in the app or by e-mail in advance. If you do not agree with the new terms, you can delete your account before they take effect.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Latvia. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country. Please contact us first — we reply within 15 working days. If we cannot agree, consumers in Latvia may turn to the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (www.ptac.gov.lv), and consumers elsewhere to their national consumer authority or the European Consumer Centre in their country. Either party may bring the matter before a competent court. The EU Online Dispute Resolution platform closed on 20 July 2025.
